N. B. Hankes (pronounced hang-kiss) is author of the recent adventure travel bestseller, Waking Up On the Appalachian Trail: A Story of War, Brotherhood, and the Pursuit of Truth. He is a veteran of the Iraq War, where he operated drones with 4th Brigade 1st Infantry Division between February 2007 and April 2008.
